- So many writers come to class with one question dominant in their mind, 'How do I make a living from this?' It's a fair enough question and one I always try to answer well - but it saddens me that it so often overshadows the more relevant questions of 'why am I writing' and 'what am I saying' and 'how do I keep it honest.'

Dear Author…
So don’t read your reviews. Sooner or later you will have one of those moments of lonely (possibly drunken) solipsism which led to you irretrievably embarrassing yourself on the internet.

*punches air in triumph*
I’m so horribly behind in answering my fan-mails. Seriously I should be shot. I can only apologize (again), and promise (again) that I’ll catch up soon. BUT I got two separate messages this morning that so filled me with glee and pride and triumph … Continue reading

Palmerstown Community School Graphic Novel Project. The final round up.
When I first sat down with the students of Palmerstown community college and explained the process we were about to embark on, I told them that finishing was entirely up to them. I wasn’t there to crack a whip over … Continue reading

Niggle niggle niggle… AH!
I’ve been poking at and prodding, and returning over and over to this particular tiny section of dialogue in the WiP knowing that something, somehow was just not working. I knew the scene itself worked in terms of the traits … Continue reading

In future I shall have her bake a cake.
Grrrr. I’ve just tolerantly smiled my way through an e-mail lecture on how Wynter ‘betrayed’ Christopher by concentrating more on politics than on his feelings, and how she ‘doesn’t deserve his love’ – only to find I wasn’t, as I … Continue reading

Snow, Writing & Palmerstown CS Graphic Novel Project
So this is what it looks like outside my window at the moment! (Vurry pretty, though potentially quite damaging to tonight’s planned trip to Dublin and popcorn-guzzling enjoyment of Les Mis. Ah well…) I won’t blind your eyes with an interior … Continue reading

Yippeee… and here we go again!
Much to my and my editors extreme shock I’ve finished The Vast Edit with two weeks to spare! Cue Mssrs Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, here for the sole purpose of expressing my joy… I had fully intended to take … Continue reading

Nary a dog will be fed nor child washed til Christmas…
Behold my kitchen table. See it contains all I need to bully my vast behemoth of a novel into something rather more readable and good. To the right of screen, the notes, letters, timelines and character sheets upon which my beloved Ms Elise … Continue reading

WiP Wordle
Heee. I should be working ( and I will be. I SWEAR IT. Any minute now I’m about to settle down and pump out today’s requisite word count) but I got a teensy bit distracted. At the weekend writing course … Continue reading
