Merron Bracelet Tattoo Design

Quite a while ago I promised the lovely Edith Mi from Tirinideth’s Books that I would design a tattoo for her based on Christopher Garron’s tribal snake bracelets. Well, I FINALLY got around to doing so and here they are. As you know, the web comics are just roughs, only indications really of panel flow, rough character design and story, so I’ve never really tied down the snake bracelet design. This was a great opportunity to do just that. I enjoyed it so much I might even have a go at Sólmundr’s bear bracelets, Ashkr and Embla’s Caoirigh bracelets and maybe even Úlfnaor’s Aoire ones when I have time.

This drawing shows the colour and highlighted version, with a flesh coloured indication of where shadow would fall on the wearer’s arm, bottom right is a black and white version which gives the tattoo artist a clearer idea of the lines used.

The main body of the bracelet is designed to repeat as often as the wearer likes so that the bracelet can wrap as many times around the arm as needed. The number of revolutions would vary from clan to clan – many clans only having one revolution – and so long as the head and body rest in line with each other each other as in the drawing, with the snake facing forward, then the bracelet is accurate (I think Christopher would have probably wrapped the bracelet one full revolution around his arm, so there would be a line of bracelet between the serpent head and the body, but this would be quite a big tattoo)

Edith is planning to get the tattoo done in June. I’m hoping it works out well – can’t wait to see the photos! (If you want to see a higher res version of the drawings, just click the photo to go to my DA page where you can embiggen it more :D)

Nice! I like the head portion and tail portion look like they blend together. 🙂 Oh, she’ll be thrilled! It’s going to look amazing!

  2. I hope it does! Getting a tattoo is such a commitment – I was very nervous when she asked me to design it!

It is, but she can always decide to not get it if she’s nervous about it. 🙂 I do think it looks amazing though. I look forward to seeing it as a tattoo. 🙂

  3. Beautiful Indeed! If I were brave enough to get a tattoo…definitely a thought. 🙂
