- So many writers come to class with one question dominant in their mind, 'How do I make a living from this?' It's a fair enough question and one I always try to answer well - but it saddens me that it so often overshadows the more relevant questions of 'why am I writing' and 'what am I saying' and 'how do I keep it honest.'
[NOTE: I get many requests to read and comment on manuscripts, which I have to regretfully decline. However I do occasionally work as a consultant for The Inkwell Group If I am accepting MS's at the time and you ask for me by name, they will pass your work on to me.

1984 vrs The Poison Throne
Last week, year twelve student, Millicent Duncan, emailed to say she had written an essay comparing the human experiences in The Poison Throne and George Orwell’s classic dystopia, Nineteen Eighty-Four. I am, of course, thrilled to have Moorehawke examined in … Continue reading

Raggedy Witch Animation
So while I’ve been working away on my agent’s notes for Book Two, I’ve also been fiddling with some animation for next year’s Raggedy Witches music video (I need to hand a timed reel over to the musician soon, so he … Continue reading

Bye bye, Raggedy Witches
So, Raggedy Witches is finally finished (and only a scant year and ten months in the writing! Remember when I thought it’d take me six months? LOLOLOL) It’s with my agent now* and I’m awaiting editorial notes. I think I’m going … Continue reading

The wonderful Sarah Webb recently interviewed me about Resonance, and my writing in general: Celine, can you tell us about your latest book and where the idea came from? Resonance is a gothic mix of sci/fi and supernatural, set in … Continue reading

Book Recommendations Please: Strong POC
Today I suggested to a friend that, rather than reread To Kill a Mockingbird, he’d read something where a POC saves the day. I then broadened it to books with strong, nuanced MCs with agency that are also POC, and put the word … Continue reading
Down the editing well…
I’m down the rabbit hole again, folks. This time for edits, as the deadline for Resonance is looming fast. It’s the last leg of what’s been a long process, but Resonance is a big book. There’s a lot of work remaining even … Continue reading
